Message from Principal Meng
Thank you: The staff of PBMS would like to thank you for all of the treats and messages you sent our way during staff appreciation week. You made our day! 🙂
Physical & Health Education: PBMS families, this fall we will be piloting a new, non-traditional physical education class called "Dance PE". This class will be offered for 7th/8th graders. While Dance PE will still encompass fitness and physical skills, the main focus of the class will be dance including jazz, ballet, modern among others. There will only be one section available so space will be limited. Please let us know as soon as possible by completing this form DANCE PE REQUEST, if your child would like to have an opportunity to take Dance PE in place of their regular physical education class.
CAASPP Testing: State testing in Mathematics begins next week. The schedule is listed in the calendar. Here are some tips and reminders for students:
-
Bring you district Chromebook - fully charged
-
Bring headphones that plug into your Chromebook (We have them but some students prefer to use their own.)
-
Get a good night’s sleep
-
Eat a healthy breakfast
-
Come to school on time
-
Come to school with a positive attitude
-
Be confident! You’ve got this!
6th grade Camp: Just 3 weeks of school left until 6th grade camp. Here is a list of items to bring: CAMP LIST. Pay special attention to the warm weather list. If you have questions contact:
5th grade Mixer: Are you a current 5th grade parent? Are you friends with 5th grade parents who will be PB parents in the fall? Come to the 5th Grade Mixer on June 2 from 4-6 at Crown Point Beach. Check out this link for more information about the mixer and other 5th grade parent topics. FOPBSS 5th Grade Parents
School Funding: PBMS needs your help. Every year the State and Federal governments provide extra funding to schools serving students with the biggest needs. Federal funding is called Title 1 and State funding is called LCFF. PBMS lost all of Title 1 funding for this year and had a small reduction in LCFF funds. We can get the funding restored for the 24-25 school year if we qualify based on your income range and family size. This month, your child will receive an LCFF Form for you to complete and return. You can also do this online in PowerSchool. Here is the JOB AID, We are expecting 100% completion. We missed qualifying for Title 1 funds by just 6 students. Portal NOW OPEN in PowerSchool.
Principal’s Coffee - Associate Principal Hiring Process and Community Input: The last principal’s coffee is scheduled for tomorrow Friday, May 12 at 8:15 in the media center. The primary focus will be on what PBMS wants in a new Associate Principal since Mr. Sobel is retiring at the end of this school year. If you cannot make the meeting but would like to share your input, please complete this form, PBMS - Associate Principal Criteria. We are also looking for parents (2) for the community interview panel. Please email me at [email protected] if you would like to serve on the panel set for Tuesday, May 23 from 10:00-2:00. The location has not been determined yet, but it will be live.
Student Behaviors: Spring has sprung which means the students are restless. We have seen an uptick in inappropriate behavior on and off campus. Some specific behaviors include using inappropriate language and slurs, messing with the soap dispensers in the boys bathrooms and unsafe behaviors at the rec center after school. Please take a few moments to review your expectations with your child so that we can all finish out the school year strong.
Mission Bay HS Cheer Tryouts: 8th graders - check out this flyer, MBHS Cheer Tryouts, if you are interested in becoming a cheerleader at MBHS next year. Paperwork must be turned in to MBHS on Monday and practices start Tuesday.
SHEP: Sexual Health Education will begin on May 30 for our 6th and 8th grade students (May 22 for Mr. Bauer’s Period 3). Instruction is in English class for 6th grade and science class for 8th grade. Please read the linked letter for more information and to access the curriculum. SHEP letter
