PBMS March 16, 2023

Message from Principal Meng

Lock Down Drill:  PBMS engaged in a lockdown drill today. Our new safety system worked well and students were able to practice what to do in an emergency. Please keep in mind that most lockdowns are to keep students in a safe spot safe when there is significant police activity near the school. This drill is part of our routinely scheduled practice we do throughout the school year to keep our campus safe.

FOPBSS FUNdraiser: Buy your tickets TODAY for the FOPBSS fundraiser!  The event is  on Saturday, March 18 from 6-10 at the Mission Bay Yacht Club. Tickets are available on the FOPBSS website: fopbss.org/shenanigans or scan the QR code in this LINK. If you've already purchased - thank you and see you there!

Office Closure: The main office will be closed on Wednesday, March 22 at 1:45pm for an all-staff training.

Chromebooks: Please assist your student with bringing a fully charged Chromebook every day.  We have a limited supply of “Loaner” computers and we’ve seen an increase in students forgetting their computer at home. Thank you for your help with this matter.

Spring Spirit Week: ASB is happy to announce our Spring Spirit Week the week of March 20th-24th. This will be the week before Spring Break.  Here is a list of the dress up dates and activities: SPRING SPIRIT

LAST WEEK! California School Parent Survey:  This survey is given to ALL California parents. The district goal is 70% completion rate. So far, PBMS has a 22% completion rate. We need another 247 families to take the survey. Please take a few moments to provide feedback by March 24.  Data is then shared with schools in the summer to help make PBMS a better, safer space. Please click on this link to complete the state survey. https://wested.ugam-apps.com/wed/ts/p1lq

8th Grade Community Projects:

  • Check out Makena’s Community Project. He is working with a large organization out of New York called Sing for Hope by painting a piano with a local artist with a unique design that will go on display in public for people to play. Afterwards it will be donated in the local community as it's forever home. https://sites.google.com/view/sing-for-hope-piano/sing-for-hope

  • Clothing Drive: Gabbi and Delilah are collecting  former Pacific Beach Middle School uniforms to donate to a Title 1 school that still has the same uniform . Any families that still have Pacific Beach Middle School uniforms in khaki, white and navy blue can bring them for donation on Wednesday the 22nd. Collection will take place in the morning and anyone who forgets to bring it that day can bring it to the collection bin that we will leave in the front office.  Thank you for your help,

  • Please help support students Alyssa  and Nola's Community Service Project by donating new and unused toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, washcloths, towels, and deodorant to any of their labeled bins placed around the school campus. The drive will be from March 10th - April 1st. All donations will go to the San Diego Rescue Mission and will be directly distributed to the homeless community in San Diego. Thank you so much for your contributions.

SANDAG - Great news! Youth 18 and under in the San Diego region can keep riding transit for free through June 2024, with unlimited rides on all the buses, trollies, and trains in the region. It’s been amazing to hear how kids and teens are using this program to get to school on time, home from activities, get to doctor’s appointments, see friends and family, and more! Do you know a young person that still needs a free youth transit pass? Visit SANDAG.org/YouthOpportunityPass to learn how they can sign up.

Community Safety: We need your help to keep our community safe. Please review your safety expectations for your child coming to and leaving school. Include your behavior expectations at parks, the rec center and shops in PB. In addition, if you see something illegal/unsafe around our campus after hours, please call the San Diego Police Department at 619-531-2000.

PBMS  Covid Testing: COVID testing can now be done at home. We  have testing kits available for pick up in the administration office (2 covid test kits per student). Please report to the school if your child tests positive. All positive home test results should be reported to the school nurse and the self reporting tool.District contact tracing and case management for students and staff will continue until further notice.

Feedback: If you have questions or concerns, please contact me via email at [email protected] or Mr. Sobel, Associate Principal,  at [email protected]. We will connect you with someone who can help or assist you ourselves. Again,  we strive to create a space where students want to come to school, staff want to come to work and parents want to send their children. Take care.
