Surface Area Lab - 6th Grade Science

Message from Principal Meng

Our science classes are fun and exciting. Last week, our 6th graders engaged in labs including the one pictured above about surface area. Our 7th graders visited the beach &  pier for hands-on exploration. Our 8th graders started work on their Community Projects, meeting with Mrs. Hensen to discuss initial plans. These are just some of the learning opportunities unique to PBMS.

PBMS & district staff are still working on the bike theft issue. We have increased supervision and recommend u-locks. Please note the district video camera is capturing footage but it is still not accessible to PBMS staff.  If you see suspicious activity in and around the school, say something. During school hours, call us at 619-221-5600. After hours and weekends call SDPD at 619-531-2000 or SDUSD PD at 619-291-7678.

Parent Information & Reminders

This Monday marks the start of the school choice window for the 2022-23 school year at San Diego Unified, giving families the chance to enroll next year in specialty magnet programs or schools outside their neighborhood boundaries. This application window will be open from October 4 through November 15, 2021; all applications are given equal priority regardless of when they are received. The choice program is open to all existing San Diego Unified students, as well as out of district students, and students attending schools in other settings such as private or charter schools. For questions about school choice, the district's Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Optionsstaff are offering assistance via email, phone, and in person by appointment.

PBMS is working hard to stop the spread of COVID. Students and staff are wearing masks indoors and out. We are wiping down desks and high contact areas, washing hands, using hand sanitizer and utilizing systems to increase ventilation in all of the classrooms. At this point, our main concern is lunchtime. Please encourage your child to stay 6 feet away from their friends while unmasked to eat and to replace their mask as soon as they are done. Not only can this decrease the spread of COVID, it can  keep students in school if a friend or classmate tests positive.

When there is a positive case on campus, the first step for us is to determine close contacts. We enter this information in a database for the contact tracers then send a phone call and an email to the parents of students who were determined to be close contacts. The contact tracer calls those families throughout the day and evening to determine next steps for the students. If deemed necessary, after notifying families of close contact, we also send home a generic letter to all families to communicate that there was a positive COVID case on campus. This letter covers a 14 day timeframe. Here is a link to the SDUSD COVID Dashboard for information on cases in our schools. COVID-19 Dashboard Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We get better at what we do with your feedback.

PULL FORWARD! Tips for a safer, smoother drop off & pick-up experience

  • Be safe: always watch for pedestrians, do not block driveways or crosswalks, do not park in red zones.
  • Pull forward to the end of the yellow curve before stopping to let your student out of the car.
  • Pull forward to the car in front of you before stopping to let your student out of the car.
  • Only use the loop if your child is prepared to exit the car quickly or gets out of school quickly.
  • Park in the lot along Felspar if you will be waiting in your car for any reason.
  • East = Entrance ONLY
  • West = Exit ONLY
  • Do NOT park in the loop spaces;  Do NOT use the loop if your child has to get their belongings out of the trunk; Do NOT  use the loop if you are going to wait in the car with your child before school starts; Do NOT use the loop if you need to make a phone call after your child gets out of the car. Drop off and Pick up Demo Video
