PBMS Family Bulletin

PBMS strives to be a place where students want to come to school, parents want to send their children and  staff want to come to work.

Message from Principal Meng

Making Good Choices: Part of middle school is learning how to make good choices when no one is watching, or even harder, when all your friends are watching. We’re noticing some skills are missing in social situations outside of school. Please spend some time talking to your child about  behavior expectations. Also,  make sure you check in with your children and ask lots of questions about what they do when they are on their own. There is NO supervision at the Rec Center so students must make good choices on their own. We care about our students and want them to be safe and make good decisions.

Spring Fair: PBMS ASB is hosting a Spring Fair for students on Thursday, May 25 to celebrate all of their hard work on State testing and in their classes. Students attend all of their classes and lunch following a shortened schedule. The fair is during school hours from 1:00-2:45. If you need to pick up your child during the fair, please let us and your child know in advance so that we can help expedite pick up. Check out these slides for details, SPRING FAIR through your child’s Google account. Most of the activities are free. Some clubs are hosting fundraisers.  There are 3 food trucks with snacks for purchase.

7th Period:  We will not have scheduled classes for 7th period on Thursday, May 25. The dismissal time for all students will be 2:45pm. If your child is in 7th period and you are not able to make child care arrangements, please complete this brief survey: 7th period supervision. We will provide supervision and activities until 4:10 for our regularly scheduled 7th period students. Please note the last day for 7th period is Friday, June 9. We will not have 7th period on Monday 6/12 or Tuesday 6/13.

Awards: At the end of the school year, we will recognize students for academics, citizenship and special International Baccalaureate areas. Invitations will be sent home with students the week of May 30.

Physical &  Health Education: FIXED LINK! PBMS families, this fall we will be piloting a new, non-traditional physical education class called "Dance PE". This class will be offered for 7th/8th graders. While Dance PE will still encompass fitness and physical skills, the main focus of the class will be dance including jazz, ballet, modern among others. There will only be one section available so space will be limited. Please let us know as soon as possible by completing this form DANCE PE REQUEST, if your child would like to have an opportunity to take Dance PE in place of their regular physical education class.

CAASPP Testing: We are down to just the 8th grade Science test and any English or Math make-up tests. We appreciate all of the hard work our students have put in to demonstrate their learning this year.

6th grade Camp: Just 2 weeks of school left until 6th grade camp. Here is a list of items to bring: CAMP LIST. Pay special attention to the warm weather list. If you have questions contact:

5th grade Mixer: Are you a current 5th grade parent? Are you friends with 5th grade parents who will be PB parents in the fall? Come to the 5th Grade Mixer on June 2 from 4-6 at Crown Point Beach. Check out this link for more information about the mixer and other 5th grade parent topics. FOPBSS 5th Grade Parents

8th grader parents: If your student is headed to Mission Bay High School next year, consider these two fabulous pieces of SWAG for their wardrobe: a custom PuraVida Buc Bracelet and Future Buc Graduation Lei!  Supplies are limited. Order today! FLYER

School Funding: PBMS needs your help. Every year the State and Federal governments provide extra funding to schools serving students with the biggest needs. Federal funding is called Title 1 and State funding is called LCFF. PBMS lost all of Title 1 funding for this year and had a small reduction in LCFF funds. We can get the funding restored for the 24-25 school year if we qualify based on your income range and family size. This month, your child will receive an LCFF Form for you to complete and return. You can also do this online in PowerSchool. Here is the JOB AID,  We are expecting 100% completion. We missed qualifying for Title 1 funds by just 6 students.  Portal NOW OPEN in PowerSchool.

SHEP:  Sexual Health Education will begin on May 30 for our 6th and 8th grade students (May 22 for Mr. Bauer’s Period 3). Instruction is in English class for 6th grade and science class for 8th grade. Please read the linked letter for more information and to access  the curriculum. SHEP letter
